Refection Post

Dear future students,
English 11o.o1 is a class that will challange your writing and analytical skills. Throughout the quarter, we had readings, essays, and some other brief hw assignments. At time I neglected to read as thoroughly as I should have or, once, I even read the wrong article. The writing went well, and I put forth effort into all of my assignments. The final paper took work, and revisions, but it was a success. I took advntage of the advice my teacher offered, and it helped my final product.
As a future student, i have a few recommdations for you. Frist, seek out your own revisions and go to the library for sources. The teacher is not there for you to do all your work, just to help. Second, keep up with your reading. It makes class more fun, and you will know exactly what is going on. Finally, in general put your best effort in to everyhitng you do, the essays are hard but they can be intersting and even fin to write.
My english experiance was a good one because i put effort in, and tried to participate in class.

Rivalry of the Decade

Celtics Lakers feud began in the nineteen-seventies during the reign of Magic Johnson and Larry bird. Today it has been rekindled by the new big three on the Celtics, Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, and “the Truth” Paul Pierce. Kobe Bryant does his share to hold up the Lakers end of the bargain, supported by Pau Gasol and Lamar Odem. The Celtics however, are clearly the superior team in all respects, due to their continued prowess on the court now and in the last few decades. The Celtics boast an astounding seventeen World Championships, leading the Lakers by two titles. The Boston Celtics are a team that stands alone, unique in their skill and the closest thing to perfection the NBA has ever seen.

Picture a Ferrari engine; oiled, glistening, and running in perfect synchronization. That is the Boston Celtics. With crisp no-look passes, the Celtics put forth a complete team effort as the point guard, Rajon Rondo, has the second most assists in the league. On the Celtics there is not one star, but the entire team as the majority of the starters and even the bench players score in double digits routinely. Compare this to the Lakers who constantly coast in the wake of Kobe Bryant, whose chiropractor must make a fortune due to the stress put on him from carrying the entire team. However, respect must be given where it is due, as Kobe Bryant is one of the top three or four premier players in the NBA. Even so, the entire Celtics Bench performs at their fullest leading the team to a combined victory over and over again.

The Celtics to date are matched almost evenly with the Lakers as they have a seven and three record, and the C’s boast an eight and three record. However, the season is young, and I am confident that the Celtics will establish a more formidable lead and go on to win championship number eighteen. The Celtics are the superior powerhouse in one of sports oldest and most hotly debated rivalry. To the novice spots fan the teams may seem evenly matched, but to the well trained eye, the Celtics reign supreme in all aspects of basketball.

Blog Post Tres

The blog I used was call Muslims against Sharia; an Islamic Reform Movement. The blog promotes the reform of the Muslim stereotype. Themes promoted in the blog posts are “acknowledging mistakes”, “accepting responsibilities”, and “forward”. The Blog talks about different instances where the victim or instigator was a Muslim. At first glance, the blog appears to be professional. There are maps, pictures, well formatted paragraphs, and cited sources. The information presented is seemingly accurate and well written. Although each author is unique, it is clear that this blog is devoted to accurate and timely information rather than trash talking and gossip as blogs are sometimes known for. This blog is professional and seems to be dedicated to a real task; recreating the Muslim image. The part of the blog that makes it the most credible is the idea that they admit that, while it was not them or the majority of Muslims, other Muslims have committed horrible atrocities. They do not deny it or argue it, but rather try to inform the readers of the real Muslim religious beliefs. The authors of this blog make the Muslim religion look like more than the extremists that the Western culture seems to be familiar with.

The video on youtube entitled The Unfunny Truth about Scientology is designed to uncover the conspiracy of scientology. It begins with startling music and some scary pictures, but transitions into short stories about people who have been killed by the churches practices, or extorted into poverty. The stories are not presented orally, but are written in white letters on a black screen. Important words such as “dead” or other important and shocking words are written in a bright red font and made to stand out. The music plays the entire video adding suspense and fear to the setting. The video also references specific events, people, dates, amounts of money, and events. In fact, the video also has actual crime scene pictures, and cites an actual case where scientologists infiltrated the US government, which, after some further research, is an actual event. The video concludes with sources cited and more of the same ominous music. The video seems to be a credible source as far as content, but the way it is presented makes it slightly less reliable and much more bias.

Blog Post 2

Built at the suggestion of the Volstead brothers to mimic Central Park, the oval at The Ohio State University is a statement of serenity and the learning that goes on at OSU and indeed any college in general. The oval, as seen from an aerial view, is surrounded by trees, creating an enclosed environment where learning can occur. I believe the openness of the oval and the natural surroundings were created intentionally to foster learning. It has been said that a connection with nature can help people be happier and more in touch with themselves. The paths through the oval, while serving a purpose as paths, are appealing to the eye with their specific angles and rigid straightness. The intentional dissymmetry makes the oval more interesting and less plain and predictable. Trees are sporadically placed so as to create shade, but gain to continue with the dissymmetry and randomness of the oval. The Oval itself is used as a place to study, meet friends, and toss a football around. It is an open general space for students, faculty, and guests of The OSU as it stands invitingly at the center of the university. The oval is a landmark, known to all, that is both inviting and important to the student life on campus.
